Post-School Gap Year

 Is your young person thinking of a gap year after school?

The following list of websites and programs provide some useful information on how to make that gap year a reality:

     Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) has launched a new
Make Your Mark which has an excellent section for
     school leavers considering or planning a gap year. 


     The Australian Government’s Smart Traveller website has an
     excellent section for young people planning to travel overseas
     with lots of handy information about volunteering, living and
     working overseas, backpacking, partying safely and what to do
     if things go wrong.  

     Student Placement Australia New Zealand is an Australian
     Company that places students and young professional into
     work, training and study programs in US, France, Germany
     and Spain.


      Anitpodeans Abroad offers programs from one to six months, 
      departing all year around. You can volunteer to teach English in
      local schools and communities or work on building, conservation
      and care projects. They also have a number of gap year jobs
      available in summer camps and ski resorts.


Australia Defence Force (ADF) Gap Year Program
is a unique
      one-year opportunity to get a feel for a career in the services.
      Applications have closed for 2015, however 2016 program
      information will be posted soon and there are also plenty of
      short term roles worth considering.



     Gapforce has gap year internships and volunteer programs
      ranging from two weeks to two years, including road trips,
      training with paid work or becoming an aid volunteer.



      GVI Australia offers volunteer abrad programs in Africa,
       Latin America, Asia, Europe and Australasia, all containing
       a blend of cultural immersion and exploration



      Latitude Global Volunteering places volunteers between
      17-25 in a dozen countries. There are educator and mentoring
      placements, sports coach and outdoor activities instructor
      positions as well as community worker, medical or caring
      assistant roles

    Projects Abroad offers gap year volunteering programs in
    29 developing countries such as teaching English, conserving
    marine life or volunteering at a community centre. Programs
    can start at any time during the year for a minimum of two or
    four weeks.


     Real Gap Experience
recommends hundreds of trips to over
     35 countries from adventure to volunteer work to paid work
     and internships.




     Wildlife ACT runs gap year volunteer conservation programs
     on conservation projects on game reserves in Botswana and
     South Africa. The organization also offers specialist volunteer
     filmmaking and photography placements.


      World Youth Adventures 'hands on' gap year experiences in
      places like Nepal , Costa Rica, Peru, Cambodia and the
      Galapagos Islands ranging from two weeks to six months and
      starting at 
anytime of the year.








      Boarding Schools in the United Kingdom
There is a myriad of gap year opportunities at boarding schools 
       in the UK providing board, lodgings and a modest income.
       These include:
            The Dragon School (Oxford)
            The Rugby School (Warwickshire)
            St George's School (London)
            The Royal School (Wolverhampton)
            Durham School, Summer Fields School (Oxford)
            Farleigh School (Hampshire)
            St Catherine's School (Bramley)
            St Edwards School (Hampshire)

       Most schools want you to stay fro the whole year but term breaks
       and summer holidays provide plenty of time for travelling.
       One option is to email the school directly (check out for a list of all boarding schools).
       Also have a look at Tutors Worldwide, which (for a fee) helps
       school leavers seeking gap year placements at UK schools.
