Questions over NSW Year 9 Literacy and Numeracy Test

Changes to requirements for the higher school certificate in New South Wales schools are coming under fire from some critics who say it could affect the educational prospects and aspirations of as many as half of all students.

Education Minister Adrian Piccoli announced earlier this year that students will have to meet literacy and numeracy requirements of proficient year 9 students to receive their HSC. They would have to achieve band 8 – the third-highest ranking in year 9 NAPLAN testing – before completing year 12 to receive the HSC.
